Features

Enter the design basis once — everything stays consistent, and every number is labeled with its method and maturity. A 107-item mechanical catalog with 55 workflows active at launch (September 15, 2026). AI-assisted, browser-based.

Adapts to any mechanical project

AIM Works ships with a 107-item mechanical engineering catalog across 9 categories — design basis, loads, equipment & plant, distribution, specialty mechanical, controls, compliance, deliverables, and cost analysis. 55 workflows are active at launch (September 15, 2026) — loads, ventilation, equipment and plant sizing, ASHRAE compliance, deliverables, and economics — with the rest visible in the catalog as Coming Soon and rolling out from there (distribution sizing is targeted for the V2 release in early 2027). Every active workflow ships honestly labeled: validated, advisory, or reference, with its method, assumptions, and limitations disclosed on the workspace and in every export. Pick what your project needs. Add or remove whole design phases per project. Office, lab, hospital, data center, district plant — the same tool, the same data bus, your project's shape.

Thermal Load Calculations

Peak heating and cooling loads by RTS (ASHRAE HOF 2021 Ch. 18) — real clear-sky solar geometry with published monthly ASHRAE constants, swept across the cooling season so each zone is reported at its own worst month and hour ("peaked Sep 1300"). Zone supply CFM comes from true room sensible load; ventilation OA is reported as a separate coil-level block. CLTD/CLF and Simplified selectable; all altitude-corrected. Design-day peaks — not 8,760-hour energy modeling.

Room-Level Load Modeling

Trace rooms directly over the architect's PDF plans in the Sheet Library, roll rooms up to zones, and read results at every level — Room, Zone, and Equipment load report pages, plus a room-loads checksum PDF for QA.

Ventilation Design

ASHRAE 62.1-2019 — per-zone Vbz/Voz and multiple-zone recirculating system outdoor air (Vou, Ev, Vot) with diversity. Per-unit demand-controlled ventilation with CO2 inputs, plus building pressurization and relief-air checks.

Equipment & Plant Sizing

AHU / RTU / DOAS / FCU summaries, cooling plant (chillers, CHW pumps, towers), heating plant (steam or hot-water boilers), coils, terminal units, energy recovery, heat exchangers, humidifiers. Efficiencies checked against ASHRAE 90.1-2022 thresholds; motor electrical data (FLA / MCA / MOCP) per NEC 430.

Psychrometrics

Humidity ratio, dew point, enthalpy, and wet-bulb per ASHRAE Fundamentals. Moist air properties for any design condition.

Compliance Scoreboards

ASHRAE 90.1-2022, 62.1-2019, 15-2022, and 170 (healthcare) scoreboards wired to your live project data, with the code citation on every line. At launch, compliance coverage is ASHRAE-only — IMC, IFGC, and NFPA scoreboards are on the roadmap, and we say so.

Every Result Labeled — Validated / Advisory / Reference

Every module declares its maturity, method, assumptions, and limitations — shown on the workspace and carried into every export. Validated is earned per published citation; a reference checklist can never present itself as an engineered result. You always know how far to trust a number.

Reports & Exports

Multi-page PDF engineering report, sizing summary, load letter, decision log, and worked-examples PDF with hand-verifiable calc walkthroughs. Basis of Design narrative, short-form CSI Division-23 specs, COMcheck entry sheet, calculation package (JSON + CSV basis), and equipment / diffuser / valve schedule CSVs — with the maturity register carried into the deliverables.

6 Worked Sample Projects

Six fully worked sample projects — small office, K-12 wing, outpatient clinic, process plant, multi-family, tenant fit-out. Load one to explore the workflow end to end, or use it as the starting point for your own project. Cloud project storage with local .aim.json backup files that round-trip cleanly.

Coordination Exports

One-way coordination summaries for the electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural teams — motor schedules with FLA / MCA / MOCP, equipment connections, weights, and penetrations. Mechanical-only at launch: these are coordination exports, not electrical or plumbing design.

Cost & Analysis

Cost estimate, life-cycle cost analysis (NPV over the study period, simple payback), a load sensitivity study that re-runs the real loads engine at ±25% and ±50%, and side-by-side scenario comparison.

Diagrams & DXF Export

P&ID / process-flow diagram export (PDF + SVG), mech room layout (PNG), and a true-scale DXF export of your traced building model — rooms, walls, and duct centerlines where auto-routed — ready for AutoCAD or LibreCAD. Traced geometry, not construction documents.

Envelope Type Library

A built-in library of envelope constructions to apply across your zones, so wall, roof, and glazing assumptions stay consistent project-wide and feed the loads engine from one place.

Distribution Sizing — Coming in V2

Duct sizing, fan selection, and CHW / HHW / steam / gas piping — equal-friction duct methods and Darcy-Weisbach + Colebrook hydraulics — are built into the codebase and visible in the catalog as Coming Soon at launch. Targeted for the V2 release in early 2027.
